Privacy Policy

Lumeli is a macOS app that helps you stay on top of your email by surfacing what needs your attention. This Privacy Policy explains what data Lumeli accesses, where it lives, how it's used, and the choices you have. Lumeli is operated by Papertelevision LLC ("Lumeli," "we," "us"). 1. Our core principle: your data stays on your device

Lumeli is a local-first application. Your email messages, calendar events, chat messages, contacts, drafts, and the tasks Lumeli identifies are stored in a database on your own Mac — not on our servers. We do not keep a copy of your mailbox. The account access tokens Lumeli uses to connect to Google are encrypted on your device using the macOS Keychain.

The only time your content leaves your device is when you use an AI-powered feature (described in Sections 4–5), and even then it is processed and then discarded — never stored by us.

2. Google user data we access

When you connect a Google account, Lumeli requests permission to access the following, using Google's secure sign-in with PKCE. We ask only for what the app's features need, and do not store, retain, or analyze this data (we never see it ourselves — it is simply used to "grab" the info and securely display it on your copy of the Lumeli email client):

  • Gmail (read & manage). To show your mail, identify your commitments, and — only when you take an action in Lumeli — send replies and change a message's state (mark read/unread, apply labels, archive, or move to trash).
  • Google Calendar (read-only). To show your day and give your meetings context alongside related email.
  • Google Chat (read & participate). To surface commitments from your chats and, when you use Lumeli's chat features, read spaces and messages and send messages or create spaces on your behalf.
  • Google Meet (read meeting spaces). To retrieve transcripts of meetings you have access to, so Lumeli can summarize action items.
  • Contacts & Directory (read-only). To identify the people you correspond with (names and details) so signals and drafts are personalized.

You can review and revoke Lumeli's access to your Google account at any time from your Google Account permissions page.

3. How we use your data

Lumeli uses the data above to provide the app's features, and for nothing else:

  • Display your email, calendar, and chats.
  • Identify your open commitments — what you owe others and what you're waiting on — and surface them as "signals."
  • Help you draft replies, summarize conversations, and produce your daily brief.

Most of this happens on your device. The features that use artificial intelligence work as described next.

4. AI processing

When you use an AI-powered feature (for example, extracting tasks from a thread, drafting a reply, polishing text, summarizing a meeting, or generating your brief), the relevant content — such as the email thread, chat messages, meeting transcript, calendar or signal context, and any draft text — is sent over an encrypted (TLS) connection to Lumeli's processing service and then forwarded to our AI provider to generate the result. Once the result is returned to your device, the content is discarded.

5. How we share your data

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it except with the service providers we rely on to operate Lumeli:

  • Anthropic — our AI provider. Content sent for AI features is processed by Anthropic's Claude models to generate the result. Anthropic does not use data submitted through its API to train its models, and does not retain it beyond what's needed to process the request.
  • DigitalOcean — hosts our processing service.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.

6. What our servers store

Our servers do not store your email, calendar events, chat messages, meeting transcripts, or drafts. What we do keep is limited to:

  • Usage metrics — for each access token, the number of requests and the amount of AI processing used, per feature and per day. This contains no message content; it's used to run and monitor the service and prevent abuse.
  • Access tokens — a one-way hashed form of the invite code that lets your app use Lumeli's AI features. We cannot recover the original code from it.
  • Waitlist email — if you sign up for the beta on our website, we store your email address so we can contact you about access.
  • Anonymous website analytics — for visits to lumeli.ai, we record a non-identifying visitor hash, the page path, device type, and referrer. We do not store your IP address or your identity.

7. Storage & security

Your content is stored locally on your Mac. Google access tokens are encrypted on your device via the macOS Keychain. All communication between the app, our service, and our providers is encrypted in transit using TLS.

8. Retention, deletion & your controls

  • Delete your content: because your data lives on your device, disconnecting a Google account in Lumeli or deleting the app removes the associated local data.
  • Revoke access: remove Lumeli's access to your Google account any time from your Google Account permissions.
  • Turn off optional analysis: Google Meet transcript analysis and Google Chat analysis are enabled by default and can be turned off in Lumeli's Settings.
  • Delete your waitlist entry: email josh@papertelevision.com and we'll remove your address.

9. Google API Services — Limited Use

Lumeli's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In particular:

  • We use Google user data only to provide and improve the user-facing features of Lumeli.
  • We do not use Google user data for advertising.
  • We do not sell Google user data.
  • We do not use Google user data to train generalized or foundation AI/ML models.
  • Humans do not read your Google user data, except where you explicitly ask us to (such as support you request), where required for security or to comply with the law, or where the data has been aggregated and anonymized.

10. Children

Lumeli is not directed to individuals under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Lumeli evolves. When we make material changes, we'll update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you.
